Weyerhaeuser Faces Deteriorating Financials While Trying to Manage a Monstrous Debt Load
Image Shown: Weyerhaeuser Company – Second quarter 2019 IR Presentation. One very interesting space of the REIT investing world includes the timber industry. Weyerhaeuser Company is a Seattle-based timber REIT that controls and owns ~12 million acres of timberland in the US, along with managing ~14 million acres in Canada via long-term licenses. The company commenced operations way back in 1900, and shares of WY yield 4.6% as of this writing. Weyerhaeuser carries too much leverage on the books for us to be interested in shares at this time, especially when considering the recent weakness in its financial performance. Given rising near-term headwinds, we think there are better high-yielding opportunities out there with safer payouts.

Dividend Growth Newsletter Portfolio Holding Microsoft Posts a Nice Quarter
Image Source: Mike Mozart. We continue to like Microsoft’s free cash flow growth potential and see the firm sporting a great dividend growth trajectory given its pristine balance sheet and quality cash flow profile. Shares of MSFT yield ~1.5% as of this writing.

Shares Up +9%; Best Ideas Newsletter Portfolio Holding PayPal Posts a Blowout Quarter
Image Source: PayPal Holdings Inc – Third quarter 2019 earnings press release.  We think PayPal should continue to perform very well going forward as secular growth tailwinds combined with strong operational performance (with an eye towards its rising ‘Merchant Services’ and Venmo total payment volumes) support the company’s free cash flow growth trajectory. The company does not pay out a common dividend at this time but could given its pristine balance sheet and quality free cash flow profile. Our fair value estimate for PYPL stands at $125 per share at the time of this writing.

Netflix Continues to Grow Paying Subscriber Count, Free Cash Flows Elusive for Now
Image Shown: Netflix Inc continues to grow its global net subscriber count as it pushes deeper into overseas markets and fends off rising competitive threats. Image Source: Netflix Inc – Third quarter 2019 IR presentation. While we doubt Netflix will generate meaningful free cash flows in the short-term given its large content investments and marketing spend, we think the company’s longer term trajectory is quite promising. Competitive pressures are building, however, and while growth ensues at the firm, we aren’t interested in shares of NFLX given its wide fair value estimate range (small changes in Netflix’s trajectory can have an outsized influence on its intrinsic value). That said, we see the company being able to stay a leader in the streaming race.

We Like Union Pacific But Shares Aren’t Cheap
Image Source: 3rd Quarter Earnings Slides. Though Union Pacific continues to navigate a tumultuous demand environment, particularly as it relates to the energy end market, the rails remain a key and indispensable part of North American infrastructure. Union Pacific offers a nice yield relative to peers, and its free cash flow generation remains solid thanks to brilliant execution on the operating line, as evidenced by an all-time best quarterly operating ratio. The only issue holding us back on Union Pacific remains its valuation. We’d have to see shares come in considerably for us to get interested. Our fair value estimate of Union Pacific stands at $142, while shares trade hands north of $170 these days.

Ford Provides an Update on Its Self-Driving Plans
Image Source: Ford Motor Company – 2018 Annual Report. Ford reiterated that the goal is to begin commercializing its autonomous driving investments starting in 2021 via a self-driving service, likely something akin to a fleet of taxi cabs with built-in autonomous driving equipment and software. Self-driving taxi cab services could in theory create substantial recurring revenue streams that are less cyclical than demand for automobiles, allowing for smoother financial performance and more consistent free cash flows at an automaker like Ford.

Morgan Stanley Could See Lower Capital Requirements
Image Source: Morgan Stanley 3rd Quarter Earnings Presentation. "...the Wealth Management and Investment Management segments...are the crown jewels at Morgan Stanley with returns on tangible equity of 37% and 36%, respectively, in the quarter. Flows are positive and market levels have been friendly, though that can change on a dime." -- Matthew Warren

Coca-Cola Posts a Nice Quarter But Shares Too Pricey
The top end of our fair value estimate range for Coca-Cola sits at $48 per share, significantly below where shares of KO are trading at as of this writing as we think the market has gotten ahead of itself on this one. While Coca-Cola is targeting higher growth areas, like ready-to-drink coffee beverages, that growth trajectory isn’t strong enough to support its current valuation, in our view. The top end of our fair value estimate range for Coca-Cola sits at $48 per share, significantly below where shares of KO are trading at as of this writing as we think the market has gotten ahead of itself on this one.
