Nvidia Beats Low Expectations and Shares are Rewarded Accordingly
Image Source: Nvidia Corporation - IR Presentation. Nvidia beat low expectations and its share price was rewarded accordingly, keeping in mind NVDA trades well off its 2018 highs. Our fair value estimate for NVDA stands at $184 per share, meaningfully above where shares are trading at, as of this writing. We are staying away from the name given risks associated with its purchase of Mellanox, weakness in data center demand in the face of trade war concerns and the synchronized slowdown in global economic activity, and in light of Nvidia’s low VBI rating. We think there are better investment opportunities out there, but we can respect that Nvidia is showing promising signs of improvement.

No Recession At Walmart; Estee Lauder Not Cheap
Image Source: Mike Mozart. Walmart’s results were quite reassuring regarding the health of the economy. There are also pockets of significant strength, with prestige beauty being catapulted by a “selfie generation.”

Alert: Markets Weakening, Raising Cash
Image Shown: In our December 26, 2018, note to members, we moved the simulated Best Ideas Newsletter and simulated Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio to "fully invested" from a cash "allocation" of 30% and 20%, respectively at the high end of the range. We are raising cash today. We are removing the Energy Select Sector SPDR and the Financial Select Sector SPDR from both the Best Ideas Newsletter and Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio to arrive at a ~10% cash position in both newsletter portfolios.

In the News: Amazon, GE, Kraft-Heinz, Disney, CVS Health, Gilead
We're reiterating the large range of fair value outcomes for Amazon. We're staying far away from General Electric and Kraft-Heinz. Netflix may have its back against the ropes with Disney Plus. CVS Health and Gilead were two setbacks in the newsletter portfolios in the past, but we kept losses to a minimum and new ideas more than offset the weakness. The Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio continues to do very well.

Sprouts’ Growth Spurt Followed by Weak Operating Margins and Terrible Guidance
Image Source: Sprouts Farmers Market Inc -- IR Presentation. We see shares of SFM as fully valued, if not generously valued, as the organic grocer’s growth story is contending with major headwinds and pressures on its margins don’t appear to be fading anytime soon.

Viewing Intrinsic Value as a Range of Outcomes: Tesla’s Margins Come Under Fire in Second Quarter, Shares Sell Off
Image Source: The Valuentum Buying Index almost called the top in Tesla's shares. Tesla shares are under considerable pressure, and we can understand why. Investors are concerned positive free cash flows may be farther away than previously anticipated as Tesla’s margins come under pressure from its transition into the mass-market via the Model 3 offering. We value shares of TSLA at $219 per share at the midpoint of our fair value estimate range and are staying away from the electric automaker as it doesn’t appear the company is firing on all cylinders just yet.

Valuentum's June Best Ideas Newsletter
Image: Page 49, June edition of American Library Association Booklist."I hope that my book Value Trap: Theory of Universal Valuation marks a turning point in the financial research industry. To you and me, 1) looking forward, 2) understanding that stock values are based on future expectations, and 3) calculating intrinsic value is simply par for the course. If other investors are not doing this, it should be no surprise that they are failing miserably. 90% underperformance! I hope my book serves as a wake up call for readers to demand forward-looking analysis and research that calculates a best fair value estimate." -- Brian Nelson, CFA

Dollar General Continues to Lead
Image Source: Dollar General (IR 2016 Presentation). We like Dollar General’s growth trajectory (as it plans to continue expanding its small-box store footprint via new stores) and its impressive same-store sales performance, with 29 consecutive years of growth as of fiscal 2018.

Facebook Was Textbook, Intel Still About Fairly Valued After Weakness
Image: Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio holding Facebook's stock has advanced 56% since it bottomed in December. This is yet another textbook execution of the Valuentum Buying Index, a strong breakout of the downtrend on a significantly undervalued stock. See also the example with Apple on page 241 in Value Trap: Theory of Universal Valuation.
