The Resilience of the US Digital Advertising Market and Alphabet
Image Shown: Shares of Alphabet Inc Class C shares, a top-weighted holding in our Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio, have performed very well over the past year. Going forward, we see room for significant capital appreciation upside as the digital advertising market has proven to be very resilient of late. To ride out the ongoing coronavirus (‘COVID-19’) pandemic, we continue to prefer large-cap tech companies with pristine balance sheets, strong cash flow profiles, and promising long-term growth outlooks. Ideally, we are searching for companies with outlooks that are supported by secular growth tailwinds, allowing for several winners in their respective end markets. Digital advertising is a prime example of a resilient high-quality market that is supported by secular growth tailwinds. Alphabet perfectly bits the bill given its ~$117.1 billion net cash position at the end of June 2020 (not including ~$13.0 billion in non-current non-marketable securities, and with no short-term debt on the books), and considering it generated over $14.0 billion in free cash flow during the first half of 2020 alone. We include Alphabet Class C shares as a top-weighted holding in our Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio, and the top end of our fair value estimate range sits at $1,795 per share of GOOG.

Facebook Hits Another All-Time High!
Image: The Valuentum Buying Index is not a stair-step trading strategy, and we view only 9s and 10s and 1s and 2s as material considerations to consider buying or consider selling criteria. We have held prior 9s and 10s in the newsletter portfolios until they reach our fair value estimates, until their technicals roll over, until they register ratings of 1 or 2 on the VBI, or due to changes in certain criteria with respect to market conditions or overall portfolio constitution. Our best ideas remain in the newsletter portfolios and Exclusive publication.Top-weighted idea in the Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio Facebook has hit another all-time high!

Facebook Augments Its Impressive Growth Trajectory
Image Shown: Shares of Facebook Inc have outperformed the S&P 500 index year-to-date, as of this writing on May 21, by a wide margin. Facebook is a top-weighted holding in the Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio and shares have surged upwards of late, sparked in part by its strong first-quarter 2020 performance, relatively speaking, given the ongoing coronavirus (‘COVID-19’) pandemic. As of this writing on May 21, shares of FB are up ~14% year-to-date while the S&P 500 is down ~8% during the same period (this is before taking dividend considerations into account; however, that doesn’t change this picture by much). We continue to like Facebook as a top-weighted holding in the Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio and please note that the top end of our fair value estimate range sits at $289 per share. Given the company’s strong fundamental and especially technical performance of late, there’s room for shares of FB to march significantly higher from current levels.

Wayfair’s Sales Rise as US Households Stay In
Image Shown: Shares of Wayfair Inc shot up on April 6 after publishing a very favorable business update. E-commerce firm Wayfair sells furniture and home décor online and operates several websites including Wayfair, Joss & Main, AllModern, Birch Lane, and Perigold. Shares of W surged upwards on April 6 after the e-commerce company put out a very promising business update that stated Wayfair’s sales were skyrocketing upwards. While most of the US economy (and others) is shutting down to contain and ride out the pandemic, Wayfair’s business model appears more resilient than the market was previously giving it credit for. That being said, the company remains very free cash flow negative and carries a net debt position. Its recent convertible debt issuance will provide Wayfair with much needed liquidity, but it remains to be seen if the company’s success of late will translate into positive free cash flows in the medium-term.

Walmart Reports Fourth Quarter Results, Raises Dividend
Image Source: Valuentum. On February 18, global brick-and-mortar retail bellwether Walmart reported mixed fourth-quarter fiscal 2020 results (ends January 31, 2020) that showed revenue advancing 2.1% and non-GAAP earnings per share of $1.38 missing the consensus forecast. We await the filing of the firm’s 10-K to roll our valuation model forward, but we do not expect to make any material changes to our fair value estimate at this time, which stands at $109 per share. The stock is trading hands at ~$118 per share at the moment.

An Update on Facebook’s Libra as Roughly Two Dozen Members Sign On
Image Shown: Facebook has room to run higher, with or without Libra. While several large financial technology and payment processing firms have recently made it clear they no longer want to be a part of the nascent Libra Association, that didn’t stop roughly two dozen members from signing the group’s charter in Geneva, Switzerland, on October 15. We really must stress that our discounted free cash flow models for Facebook don’t take in account the upside its proposed asset-back cryptocurrency Libra might generate. This opportunity represents pure upside to our forecasts, and we continue to like Facebook as a top holding in our Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio.

Internet Sales Taxes and Restructuring the U.S. Post Office
The Supreme Court has been active in creating revenue opportunities for states, as in legalizing sports betting and most recently in facilitating the collection of online sales taxes. The White House has floated the idea of reorganizing the U.S. Postal Service, but we think this endeavor represents more of a tail risk for Stamps.com than anything else. Though we expect smaller online retailers to feel some pressure as a result of the online sales tax ruling (Amazon already collects online sales taxes), we don’t think the ruling, while leveling the playing field for some brick-and-mortar retailers, will change the fate of many aging department stores such as J.C. Penney and Sears, both of which may not make it to the other side of the next downturn with shareholder capital intact.
