Costco’s Comparable Store Sales Deliver
Image Source: Costco. On May 30, Costco reported solid third quarter results for its fiscal 2024 period ended May 12. Net sales for the quarter increased 9.1% thanks to total company adjusted comparable sales performance of 6.5% and e-commerce growth of 20.7%. We like Costco’s business quite a bit, but shares are trading at quite the lofty earnings multiple (~50 times fiscal 2024 earnings expectations). We’d wait for a meaningful pull back in shares before taking interest in the name. May 22, 2024

Image Source: Target. Though Target is working hard to get back on track, it's difficult for us to grow excited about dabbling in Target’s shares given the stiff 3.1% decline in total revenue in the first quarter coupled with increased competition from Walmart and Costco that won’t be going away. We think Walmart and Costco are much better positioned for the current market environment than Target. May 10, 2024

JPMorgan Cautious on Geopolitical Tensions and Inflationary Pressures
Image Source: Hakan Dahlstrom. On April 12, JPMorgan reported mixed first-quarter 2024 results. JPMorgan is one of our favorite banks, in part due to strong leadership at the top and solid fortress-like balance sheet. Though we don’t include any individual bank in the newsletter portfolios, we do think the Financial Select Sector SPDR makes sense for diversification reasons, as showcased in the Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio. Shares of JPMorgan yield ~2.4% at the time of this writing. Mar 31, 2024
Toll Brothers Notes Strong Start to Spring Selling Season
Toll Brothers raised its full-year fiscal 2024 guidance across key metrics, and the company noted that it has seen a "marked increase in demand coinciding with the start of the spring selling season." Though we don’t include any homebuilder in the simulated newsletter portfolios, it’s good to see things are progressing well at Toll Brothers. Mar 22, 2024
