We think shares of PENN are fairly valued at the moment, and we won’t be taking a “flier” on Virgin Galactic, but we still think it is one worth watching.

Unicredit Struggles to Demonstrate Earnings Power
Image Shown: Summary of Unicredit’s 2Q2020 Results: Image Source: Unicredit 2Q2020 Earnings Presentation. When one looks at individual bank interests and also the national champion nature of many banks that are closely tied to their home countries, it becomes difficult to picture how the overtraded European banking landscape will resolve itself. One scenario is perhaps by smaller banks coming together, though that might not really move the needle that much. We generally dislike the banking industry due to the arbitrary nature of its cash flows, weak economic returns, and highly-regulated nature, and we think Unicredit may be one to avoid, in particular.

BNP Paribas is One of the Stronger Banks in an Overtraded European Landscape
Image Shown: BNP Paribas’s second quarter results held up better than many global bank peers. Image Source: BNP Paribas 2Q2020 Earnings Presentation. While some of the stronger global banks like BNP Paribas are showing that they can take the economic fallout from COVID-19 on the chin while maintaining some degree of earnings power and protecting strong capital levels, other banks with lesser earnings power and balance sheets are falling prey to this cycle with losses and lower capital levels. From our perspective, it is simply easier to find non-bank operating companies with strong moats, sound balance sheets, and visible free cash flow growth into the future. Be careful investing in banks!

Ameresco Targets Green Growth by Offering Customers Cost Savings
Image Source: Ameresco Inc - May 2020 IR Presentation. We are going to cover Ameresco Inc (AMRC) in this article. Given the company’s more novel business strategy, we will start off by going over its operations before digging into its financials. Ameresco’s financials have held up well so far during the first half of 2020 in the face of the ongoing coronavirus (‘COVID-19’) pandemic, though we caution its financial statements can be a messy read.

IBM’s Cloud Transition Continues
Image Source: International Business Machines Corporation – 2019 Annual Report. On July 20, IBM reported second quarter 2020 earnings that beat both consensus top- and bottom-line estimates. Most of the market’s excitement centered on IBM’s ‘Cloud & Cognitive Software’ segment posting year-over-year revenue growth of ~3% in the second quarter while its company-wide GAAP revenue declined by ~5% year-over-year, though initial gains in IBM’s share price faded away during regular trading hours on July 21. In the earnings press release, IBM noted its “total cloud revenue” grew by 30% year-over-year last quarter. Shares of IBM are trading near their fair value estimate of $129 as of this writing, indicating that shares of IBM appear fairly valued.

Steel Dynamics Bets Big on North America’s Industrial Economy
Image Source: Steel Dynamics Inc – June 2020 IR Presentation. Investor sentiment towards the steel industry is rebounding as the medium- and long-term outlook for global industrial activity has improved markedly since March 2020. The ongoing coronavirus (‘COVID-19’) pandemic has significantly hampered near-term industrial activity, though major fiscal stimulus packages (made feasible through major monetary stimulus programs) launched in various developed nations could provide some relief. Shares of Steel Dynamics have recovered meaningfully since their March 2020 lows and are trading a tad below our fair value estimate as of this writing. Shares of STLD yield ~3.6% on an annualized forward-looking basis as of this writing and we give the steel maker a Dividend Cushion ratio of 1.3x providing for a “GOOD” Dividend Safety rating. The company has made great strides in improving its financial position over the past several years. We will first provide some background on the fiscal stimulus measures that have either been approved and or proposed in key economies across the world, before digging deeper into Steel Dynamics.

Our Thoughts on Warner Music Group Going Public
Image Shown: Shares of Warner Music Group Corp were trading comfortably above their initial public offering (‘IPO’) price of $25 per share at of the end of normal trading hours on June 8, after going public on June 3. Warner Music went public on June 3, though shares were sold by the company’s stockholders in the IPO and not the firm itself, meaning these proceeds are not expected to go to Warner Music Group. The company owns various record labels including Atlantic Records, Warner Records, Elektra Records and Parlophone Records along with its global music publishing business Warner Chappell Music. For some background, please note Warner Music Group counts Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, and Cardi B as some of its recording artists and on the music publishing business side of things songwriters including Twenty One Pilots, Lizzo and Katy Perry are part of the firm’s team. In 2011, Access Industries purchased Warner Music Group and took the company private after the firm was previously publicly traded from 2005 to 2011.

CubeSmart’s Financial Flexibility Will Come In Handy
Image Source: CubeSmart – March 2020 Investor Presentation. On May 7, High Yield Dividend Newsletter portfolio holding CubeSmart--5.0% yield--reported first-quarter 2020 earnings. The company pulled its full-year guidance for 2020 given the uncertainties caused by the ongoing coronavirus (‘COVID-19’) pandemic. We appreciate that the self-storage real estate investment trust (‘REIT’) remained comfortably free cash flow positive last quarter, which is one of the reasons why we like CubeSmart as a high yielding play in the REIT world.
