Nike Holding Its Own Against Major Exogenous Shocks
Image Shown: Shares of Nike Inc are on an upward climb again after dropping significantly from November 2021 to March 2022. Nike is holding its own in the face of major exogenous headwinds. The firm’s pivot towards D2C and digital sales are having a powerful impact on its business and underlying financial performance. We appreciate that Nike is a stellar generator of shareholder value, though we caution that inflationary headwinds and supply chain hurdles loom large over its near term outlook, as does the Ukraine-Russia crisis due to rising fuel expenses and the risk that portions of the global economy (particularly developing and emerging markets) may enter a recession. We continue to be bullish on U.S. equities and the domestic economy.

Public Storage Is a High-Quality Income Generation Idea
Image Shown: Public Storage, a self-storage REIT that is included as an idea in our High Yield Dividend Newsletter portfolio, is a stellar cash flow generator with a bright growth outlook. We are huge fans of the self-storage REIT industry, particularly in the US, due to the ability of companies operating in this space to fully cover their total dividend obligations with their free cash flows. Image Source: Public Storage – March 2022 IR Presentation. The self-storage industry is an attractive space for investors seeking income generating opportunities, particularly real estate investment trusts (‘REITs’) with a sizable presence in the U.S. market. The self-storage REIT owns economic interests in 2,800+ self-storage properties across the U.S. Public Storage is a cash flow generating powerhouse that historically has fully covered its total dividend obligations with its free cash flows. Its promising growth outlook and strong financial position underpins the REIT’s dividend strength. Shares of PSA yield ~2.2% as of this writing.

Johnson & Johnson’s Outlook Improving, Steadily Putting Legal Issues Behind It
Image Source: Johnson & Johnson – Fourth Quarter of Fiscal 2021 IR Earnings Presentation. On a price-only basis, shares of Johnson & Johnson are up ~2% year-to-date through the end of regular trading hours March 22, while the S&P 500 is down ~6% during this period. We include shares of Johnson & Johnson as an idea in both the Best Ideas Newsletter and Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolios, and we love the company's resiliency in the face of whatever challenges are thrown at it. Investors now have a much better idea of what Johnson & Johnson’s legal settlement liabilities could end up looking like as compared to where things stood a year ago, and while the pending spinoff of its consumer health operations has fundamentally altered its proposition as a straightforward dividend growth opportunity, the stock continues to hold up in an otherwise tumultuous environment. We're not counting J&J out by any means, and the stock remains a core holding in both the simulated Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio and simulated Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio.

Image Source: Home Depot Inc – Fourth Quarter of Fiscal 2021 Supplemental Material. Demand for home improvement and construction activities remains strong according to Home Depot Inc, an idea in the Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio. When Home Depot reported its fourth quarter earnings for fiscal 2021 (period ended January 30, 2022) in February 2022, the company beat both consensus top- and bottom-line estimates. Home Depot also announced a 15% sequential increase in its dividend and issued out favorable guidance for fiscal 2022 in conjunction with its latest earnings report. ASML Holding Is a Tremendous Enterprise, Holds Fantastic Competitive Position
Image Source: ASML Holding NV – 2021 Annual Report. The Dutch firm ASML Holding NV makes the photolithography systems used by semiconductor foundries to produce “chips” that power the modern economy. In part due to its immense technological lead over its competitors, ASML Holding effectively has a monopoly at the high end of its industry, meaning its photolithography systems are required to produce the most advanced semiconductor components. The company also offers semiconductor equipment services and stands to gain immensely from ongoing growth in its installed equipment base. We're huge fans of the company.

Berkshire Hathaway Is Firing on All Cylinders; Shares Surging
Image Shown: Shares of best idea Berkshire Hathaway Class B (ticker: BRK.B) have surged higher over the past year with room to run. Those of you that have been long-time members of Valuentum (thank you by the way!) know that we are huge fans of Warren Buffett. We include Berkshire Hathaway Inc (BRK.A) (BRK.B), specifically its Class B shares (ticker: BRK.B), as an idea in the Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio. Recently, Buffett (CEO and Chairman of Berkshire) released his latest annual letter to shareholders, which included plenty of important information regarding the conglomerate’s financial performance and investing practices at-large. One of the things that stuck out in Buffett’s latest annual letter to shareholders, a topic that he has brought up often in the past, is his belief in betting on America. In the letter, Buffett notes that “our country would have done splendidly in the years since 1965 without Berkshire. Absent our American home, however, Berkshire would never have come close to becoming what it is today.” For reference, Buffett took control of Berkshire back in 1965. We are also big believers that the number one place for investors to be invested is in U.S. equities. Specifically, large cap U.S. tech stocks with “moaty” business models, fortress-like balance sheets, incredible free cash flow generating abilities, and growth outlooks underpinned by secular tailwinds represent some of our favorite ideas alongside U.S. energy giants (a shorter term tactical play in the face of the ongoing inflationary environment) and high-quality U.S.-focused firms like Berkshire. We appreciate Buffett’s longstanding commitment to utilizing discounted free cash flow analysis to locate and invest in undervalued enterprises based in the U.S.

Oracle Expects Its Solid Revenue Growth Trajectory Will Continue Into This Fiscal Quarter
Image Source: Oracle Corporation – September 2019 IR Presentation. On March 10, Oracle Corp reported third quarter earnings for fiscal 2022 (period ended February 28, 2022) that matched consensus top-line estimates but missed consensus bottom-line estimates. The company’s revenue growth came in at a decent clip last fiscal quarter, and that trajectory is expected to continue into the current fiscal quarter, according to guidance management announced during Oracle’s latest earnings call. We include Oracle as an idea in the Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio, and shares of ORCL yield ~1.7% as of this writing.

Valuentum Weekly: Yields on New Series I Savings Bonds Have Soared!
The Dow Jones, S&P 500 and NASDAQ futures are all indicated up Sunday night (March 13), but that may not mean much when trading kicks off tomorrow. The start to 2022 has been one of the worst stretches during the past decade, but broader market indexes still aren't down much, even after factoring in several expected rate hikes by the Fed and economic sanctions on Russia due to the war in Ukraine. According to data from Seeking Alpha, the S&P 500 (SPY), Dow Jones Industrial Average (DIA), and Nasdaq (QQQ) are off ~12%, ~10%, and ~19% so far this year, respectively. However, this weakness compares to (and is inclusive of) incredible 5-year price-only returns on the SPY, DIA, and QQQ of ~77%, ~58%, ~146%, respectively, so it's hard for stock investors to be disappointed in much of anything, even if all they were able to do was match the returns of the S&P 500 the past 5 years. Many, however, unfortunately, diluted those 5-year returns with hefty bond and international exposure and sometimes large AUM fees, so the weakness in 2022 is probably more painful for some than perhaps it should be. In any case, we remain bullish on stocks for the long run, with a heavy bent toward large cap growth and big cap tech with tactical overweight "positions" in big cap energy.
