Three Newsletter Portfolio Ideas Post Stellar Earnings Updates: JNJ, LMT, MSFT
Image Source: Johnson & Johnson – Fourth Quarter of Fiscal 2020 Earnings IR Presentation. Earnings season is now underway and so far, we are quite impressed with the performance of the ideas included in the newsletter portfolios. Johnson & Johnson and Lockheed Martin are both on the rebound while Microsoft continues to be an “unstoppable” growth juggernaut. All three of these firms have stellar free cash flow generating abilities and have promising growth outlooks, which underpins why we are big fans of each company.

ALERT: Raising Cash in the Newsletter Portfolios
Our research has been absolutely fantastic for a long time, but 2020 may have been our best year yet. With the S&P 500 trading within our fair value estimate range of 3,530-3,920 (and the markets rolling over while showing signs of abnormal behavior), we're raising the cash position in the Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio and Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio to 10%-20%. For more conservative investors, the high end of this range may even be larger, especially considering the vast "gains" from the March 2020 bottom and the increased systemic risks arising from price-agnostic trading (read Value Trap). The individual holdings will be reduced in proportion to arrive at the new targeted cash weighting in the respective simulated newsletter portfolios. The High Yield Dividend Newsletter and Dividend Growth Newsletter are scheduled for release February 1. We'll have more to say soon.

Lockheed Makes an Intriguing Acquisition
Image Source: Lockheed Martin Corporation – December 2020 IR Presentation covering Lockheed Martin Corporation’s pending acquisition of Aerojet Rocketdyne Holdings Inc. On December 20, Lockheed Martin Corp announced it was acquiring Aerojet Rocketdyne for $56.00 per share in cash, or $51.00 per share after taking into account a special $5.00 per share pre-closing cash dividend payment that Aerojet Rocketdyne plans to pay out. The deal has a total equity value of ~$5 billion when including the special dividend component and is expected to close in the second half of 2021. In our view, this deal is highly complementary to Lockheed Martin’s existing operations. Combining Aerojet Rocketdyne’s propulsion and power systems business segments with Lockheed Martin’s expansive aircraft, helicopter, missile, space, maritime, and weapon systems business segments should lead to sizable operational and developmental synergies.

We Expect to Raise Our Fair Value Estimate of Honeywell
Image: Honeywell’s Third Quarter 2020 Earnings Release Slide Deck. We may have been a bit too conservative with our latest fair value estimate change of Honeywell in light of our expectations of the impact of COVID-19 on its business. Heading into the COVID-19 crash, our fair value estimate for Honeywell had been north of $150, and we expect to revise it modestly higher than that mark upon the next update of our valuation model. In light of COVID-19, we plan to apply a wider fair value estimate range, too, and that should put shares as fairly valued. Honeywell is our favorite industrial idea, but it remains on the bench in favor of better-positioned net-cash-rich powerhouses currently in the newsletter portfolios.

Overweighting Outperformers
Image: The performance of ideas in the Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio during the trading session October 21. Many of the higher-weighted ideas in the newsletter portfolio are propelling the portfolio to relative outperformance. The Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio comprises a portfolio constructed of Valuentum's best ideas. These are companies that have scored favorably on the Valuentum Buying Index (VBI) and have been included in the newsletter portfolio with consideration of sector diversification and market/economic risk. The Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio is found in the Best Ideas Newsletter, which is released on the 15th of each month. Source: Seeking Alpha.

Lockheed Martin Beats Expectations and Raises Guidance Yet Again
Image Shown: Lockheed Martin continued to grow its revenues and segment operating profit in the third quarter of fiscal 2020. Image Source: Lockheed Martin Corporation – Third Quarter of Fiscal 2020 IR Earnings Presentation. On October 20, Lockheed Martin Corp reported third quarter earnings for fiscal 2020 (period ended September 27, 2020) that beat consensus top- and bottom-line estimates. Lockheed Martin’s GAAP sales rose by 9% year-over-year, hitting $16.5 billion, in part due to the company increasing its F-35 aircraft deliveries to 31 in the fiscal third quarter from 28 in the same quarter last fiscal year. Additionally, all four of Lockheed Martin’s core business segments (‘Aeronautics,’ ‘Missiles and Fire Control,’ ‘Rotary and Mission Systems’ and ‘Space’) reported year-over-year sales growth. Lockheed Martin’s diluted EPS from continuing operations rose by over 10% year-over-year last fiscal quarter, though its GAAP diluted EPS was held down (still grew by 7% year-over-year) by a loss from its discounted operations relating to the resolution of a tax dispute stemming from a 2016 divestment.

Great Day in the Markets!
Image: The Invesco QQQ Trust, an exchange-traded fund based on the NASDAQ 100 index, had a great day during the trading session October 12, as it leads all major indexes on the year. The trading session October 12 was a sight to see. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.88%, the S&P 500 jumped 1.64%, while the NASDAQ powered ahead an incredible 2.56%. As many of our members know, the Best Ideas Newsletter portfolio and Dividend Growth Newsletter portfolio are very heavily weighted in large cap growth, big cap tech, and the NASDAQ.

Dividend Growth Selection in a Low Yield Environment
Image Source: EpicTop10.com. Management's willingness to pay is critical, so an understanding of how dividend growth has been the past few years is very important, but when we look for fantastic dividend growth ideas for the future, we also want to make sure that the management team has the capacity to keep raising the dividend--meaning there's so much more to dividend growth assessments than backward-looking analysis. For starters, we want our long-term dividend growth ideas to have strong competitively-advantaged business models, solid secular growth trends or recession-resistant characteristics, impressive balance sheets (sometimes and preferably with hefty net cash positions) and growing future expected free cash flows (strong Dividend Cushion ratios).
