Viewing Intrinsic Value as a Range of Outcomes: Tesla’s Margins Come Under Fire in Second Quarter, Shares Sell Off
Image Source: The Valuentum Buying Index almost called the top in Tesla's shares. Tesla shares are under considerable pressure, and we can understand why. Investors are concerned positive free cash flows may be farther away than previously anticipated as Tesla’s margins come under pressure from its transition into the mass-market via the Model 3 offering. We value shares of TSLA at $219 per share at the midpoint of our fair value estimate range and are staying away from the electric automaker as it doesn’t appear the company is firing on all cylinders just yet.

Coca-Cola, Visa, and More from Valuentum
If you recall, Facebook issued a terrible outlook in mid-2018 that sent the stock tumbling. Many of our members cancelled their membership during 2018 on this decline. But we stuck with our conviction in the name. But why? How could we possibly stick with a company like Facebook all the way down and ditch entities like Kinder Morgan and General Electric, seemingly iron-clad companies, right at their tops. The answer, my dear members, is a focus on the financial statements and forward-looking analysis.

Best Ideas Holding Visa Posts a Great Quarter, We Continue to Like the Name
Image Source: Visa Corp. Visa does not issue credit cards, so it doesn’t take on any credit risk, and instead makes its money from offering payment processing solutions. The virtuous cycle of increased debit/credit card use worldwide is an integral part to our thesis.

Coca-Cola’s Valuation Is Stretched
Image Source: Broderick. While the market clearly liked Coca-Cola’s earnings report, we believe investors are getting ahead of themselves. We aren’t interested in shares of KO at these levels, and we caution readers on the stretched valuation of consumer staples companies in general.

Hasbro Posts a Great Quarter, Shares Fully Valued
Image Source: Hasbro. Hasbro posted a great quarter with top-line growth and margin expansion highlighting the powerful pull its brands and properties have with consumers, both in North America and abroad. With several upcoming catalysts in the fourth quarter, Hasbro may be able to follow up a strong first half with a solid second half performance.

Roaring 20s? -- Consumer Staples Valuations Stretched
Image Source: Alan Levine. Strong outlooks for Kimberly-Clark, United Technologies, Hexcel and Lockheed Martin point to an economy that is still gaining momentum. We caution investors of consumer staples stocks, however, with many equities holding large net debt positions, and the sector trading at almost 20 times forward earnings. Microsoft Posts a Great Quarter to Round Out a Great Fiscal Year
Image Source: Microsoft Corp. We remain very optimistic on Microsoft’s future dividend growth trajectory, and we would like to note the upper end of our fair value estimate range stands at $154 per share of Microsoft. The market at-large seems largely supportive of Microsoft’s latest earnings, and so are we.

In the News: Second-Quarter Earnings Season Marches On
We like what we saw out of a few industrial names, including Honeywell, Danaher and Dover. We thought Taiwan Semi’s report was okay, and Philip Morris continues to navigate declining cigarette volumes. We include our thoughts on some of the mid-size banks.

Pounding the Table on Bank of America
Image Source: Bank of America 2Q19 Earnings Presentation. Bank of America can be bought for a valuation that reflects the bank as if it were to stand still, even though it is steadily going after the competition and improving its own efficiency and return on capital metrics. We may look to add Bank of America to the newsletter portfolios.
